I am a Canadian graduate student, museum volunteer, and history enthusiast who aspires to a career in academia. My main areas of interest? Anything involving my home nation of Canada, and history from the 17th through 19th centuries. Of course, I am also open to far broader interests as well, but that is the main gist of it.
I've also got a bit of a little dream, if I may say so myself: I would love to write historical fiction. Not historical romance per se, but fiction set within a historical context. As it is, I do have the beginnings of a plot and characters in mind, so this blog will also feature posts about my little project: a novel (or series of novels) focused around Canada in the 18th century.
Finally, for those who are wondering, the name of this blog - "Maple, Lily, Peony, and Rose" - is one that bears a special personal significance to me. It carries within it all the threads of my cultural heritage: both the complexities that make up what is Canada today, and my Chinese descent.

Hello Kita, I'm not sure you still check this, but I stumbled across this beautiful blog on a bit of a nostalgia trip and couldn't help myself but to reach out. You probably don't remember me, but my sister and I use to read your Sous la Rose project. It was such a special thing that we could experience it in that moment with you, to get to read such a compelling story being shaped in front of our eyes. We were younger at the time, still in high school, but it was a memory that we really bonded over, and we still look back on it very fondly. We have both since moved quite far from one another (Ash lives in Alaska now, the very responsible adult she is, while I am currently in Germany finishing my PhD next year and dreading the reality of adulthood coming my way xD), but the times we spend in those days reading stories together kept us close, and I cannot thank you for that shared experience, because my life would be so much emptier without her in it. I was also so happy to read about your ambitions to transform that historical world into original fiction. If you ever continued with the project, or if your writing ultimately took you somewhere completely different, we would genuinely love the opportunity to support your work.

I hope that life has been kind in return and more than anything that you are doing well. I also want to be clear, there is no pressure to reply, but I simply wanted to send this out into the ether in the hopes that you know the impact your stories made for two little girls.
